Throughout football history in Mexico, there have been a few teams who have been an integral part of that history. One of these is Deportivo Toluca, which since its inception back in 1917, have shown to be one of the great Mexican football teams. Since its ascension to First Division on January 18th, 1953, they have never descended, and in that span have collected 7 League Titles, which have given the institution enormous prestige, not only on a national basis but also on the international stage. Following the 196667 season, in which they celebrated their fiftieth anniversary, the club won its first League Championship in February of 1967. Two more League Titles followed in 1968 and 1975. And in the summer of 1998, after more than 23 years of waiting, and with a three goal deficit, Toluca reached their dream, to be the Mexican football champions. They did it thanks to the spirit and fervent support of their fans, who filled the Bombonera to capacity the choriceros came back from a 2 0 hole and ended up throttling Necaxa by a 5 2 final. The Red Devils also would gain championships the following year and again in 2002.
