Club Atlampampeacutetico Newell39s Old Boys is the famous football team from Rosario, Argentina, founded in 1903. It was named by ex pupils of the English High School of Rosario, in homage to its director and football coachEnglish immigrant Isaac Newell. Newell39s Old Boys has an historic rivalry with Rosario Central, the other club from Rosario. Newell39s Old have enjoyed a long and illustrious history of winning, both local and International. The Boys have won the Argentine Championship five times Metropolitano 1974, 198788, 199091, Clausura 1992 and Apertura 2004. The 199091 Championship was disputed between the 1990 Apertura Newell39s and 1991 Clausura Boca Juniors Champions. Even though the 1990 Clausura was not considered official by itself, it is considered by Newell39s supporters to be their ampampampquotsixthampampampquot championship. In the maximum Latin American Club Soccer Tournament the Liberators of the Americas Cup, Newells was the Sub Champion twice, in 1988 and 1992. Newell39s also won a mini tournament called Little World Cup in 1988, against giants like River Plate, Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid and Manchester United. Newells is one of the few argentine clubs that made a long and successful tour of Europe in 1941, where they defeated several important teams, like Valencia, Borussia, Real Madrid and the Spanish National ampampampquotAampampampquot Team.
